Nike Air Elan Pinnacle

I got a little worried when i first saw the Quickstrike Nike Air Elan Pinnacle because of the style of the shoe just seemed strange. Then I happened up on this colorway in Desert Clay, Gold, and Orange and imagined it with some dark denim and fell in love.
According to Freshness, the Quickstrike Pinnacle pack of Elan sneakers, that includes this Desert Clay colorway and the black colorway, will come in a premium Nike Sportswear bag in addition to the typical Nike Sportswear shoe box. The Sportswear division is definitely continuing their commitment to high design, high profile and high style pieces.

Bromance: an investigation

Consider the following: The Sports Guy Bill Simmons, an ESPN blogger, receives plenty of email and usually answers it publicly on his page. After a small hiatus his mail bag returned and upon reading found this question the most provocative, intriguing and thoroughly researched.
Q: Do you think the relationship between Rocky and Apollo could be considered the original bromance?
– Kevin McB, Oakland, N.J.
SG: No way. The original bromance was Lewis and Clark. I’d break down the others like this: Costanza and Seinfeld (funniest); Norm and Cliff (second funniest); Diggler and Rothchild (third funniest); Borat and Azamat (grossest); O.J. and A.C. (most controversial); the Rat Pack (most influential); Kimmel and Carolla (drunkest); Puffy and Biggie after Biggie died (most shameless); Flintstone and Rubble (best animated); Mike and the Mad Dog (most tragic); Kurt Warner and Jesus (most inspirational); Jules and Vincent Vega (most violently entertaining); McEnroe and Fleming (most one-sided); Kobe and Shaq (most destructive); Lincoln and Derickson (most suspicious); Damon and Affleck (wealthiest); Tom and Jerry (most psychotic); Cagney and Lacey (just kidding); Michael Jackson and Emmanuel Lewis (openly creepiest); Bob Crane and John Carpenter (secretly creepiest); Spade and Farley (best one-time chemistry that couldn’t be recreated, even by them); King and Favre (most gushing); Lennon and McCartney (most successful); Parker and Stone (most creative); A-Rod and Jeter (most contrived); Clapton and Harrison (biggest backstab); Chuck D and Flava Flav (most unlikely); Siegfried and Roy (best romance bromance); McConaughey and Armstrong (most appearances without a shirt); Bauer and Almeida (most exciting); Wilbon and Kornheiser (most reliable); De Niro and Pesci (best mafia); Redford and Newman (coolest); Simon and Garfunkel, Malone and Stockton, Madden and Summerall (tie for “best fit”); Scottie and Michael (most titles); Hanks and Scolari (biggest disparity of talent); Rocky and Apollo, Daniel-San and Miyagi, Buck and Aikman (tie for “most uncomfortable”); Clooney and Pitt (most overrated); Kirk and Spock, Tango and Cash (tie for “most unintentional comedy”); McNulty and Bunk, Big Papi and Manny (tie for “most underrated”); T-Mac and Vince (least likable); Felix and Oscar (best contrast); and Red and Andy (the greatest bromance ever), with Red and Andy’s beach hug in Mexico doubling as the single greatest bromance moment. Thank you and please drive through.

Band of Outsiders 09 Fall.Winter

Ok so maybe it’s a little early but once I saw this lookbook for the Fall.Winter Band of Outsiders collection I felt obligated to post. Seeing their stuff around as well as various collaborations, I was instantly enamored. It’s nice to see their stuff getting some love on the blogs, especially since I believe it matches my style of preppy meets classic pieces offset with a little attitude.
Side note: Head designer Scott Sternberg was a former CAA talent agent with no fashion background and according to my sources is no killing it.

Check out their site here.

Audi A1 Sportback Concept
I was blown away when I saw this thing and read the first paragraph. New Audi hybrid? I’m game…
“Big on efficiency, style and performance this is by far the coolest Plug-in Hybrid concept I have seen so far. The Audi A1 Sportback sports a 1.4-liter TSI gas burning engine equipped with both a turbo and supercharger and a 20 kW (27 hp) electric motor.
Working together in hybrid mode the two engines propel the A1 from 0 to 62mph in 7.9 seconds with a top speed of 124mph all the while getting 72.4 mpg! Or you can switch to pure electric mode and drive approximately 60 miles sans petrol.”
And then I realized why they call it a Sportback. Here’s hoping that they make this thing into a small snub back like the EOS Jetta, I would definitely invest in an Audi that can get 72.4 mpg, especially since we aren’t getting the light rail. Read the rest of the features here.

Here is the link to the rest of them but I wanted to post the one photo that included one of my posters. Be sure and check out the AIGA site for the Meet the Judges event happening about 20 ft. from my desk here at HOK.

Mend Your Mask
“Cut your morning devotions into your personal grooming. You would not go out to work with a dirty face. Why start the day with the face of your soul unwashed?” - Robert A. Cook
You might notice that some men do not apply this mantra to their lives and thus certain magazines and women cry themselves to sleep while the future holds wrinkles, pock marks and even the c word. Well in hopes of helping the common man and to point out the importance of taking care of your mug, I have decided to submit myself as a case study.
I have noticed that in recent months, as the weather becomes more dry, my skin feels the effects and begins breaking out. As someone who has had acne issues since puberty, I have tried just about everything to curb it’s onslaught. I have recently decided to purchase some natural (read: expensive) treatments so that I can put my best face forward.
In my search I have decided to share some sites that have helped in my search for a healthier façade. Look forward to a review of products as my research continues.

Dior Homme Duffle Coat
Because I keep an ear to the proverbial ground regarding fashion I have noticed a certain influx in the last few seasons of duffle coats. Duffle coats, not shockingly, are coats made from duffle, a coarse woollen material. The name derives from Duffel, a town in the province of Antwerp where the material originates.
Coincidentally, duffle bags were originally made from the same material, the only version I have seen was made of canvas. I also learned that the toggles are designed to be easily fastened and unfastened while wearing gloves in cold weather at sea. I think it is safe to say that due to their militaristic/uniform style they had become prevalent in fashion other than the obvious shelter aspect.
As I have noticed these coats are usually quite expensive and often look billowy, hence my not having one. Were I affluent I would certainly purchase the slimmer version by Dior Homme. If you would describe yourself as such, purchase here for roughly (I mean that quite literally) 1300 Euro.

Tasty
A month ago I asked for the Dr. Dre headphones, that were released and raved about by everyone that had used them, for my birthday. Dre Beats seemed to be everything I wanted in a headphone, other than a steep price tag, good bass, excellent for hip-hop and electronic music. I didn’t get them and paid off some debt instead.
In the same thread, I heard that my favorite watch maker Nixon was going to put a hand into the headphone market which excited me quite a bit. I own two of their watches and am always impressed by the design and care that goes into the production of their products. So when I saw these images of their headphones today you can imagine my excitement. I suppose it’s a good thing Christmas is coming up. These haven’t been released yet but are going for anywhere between $40 and $200. More information as it comes….
